Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Dayton area.
Dayton was named the Gem City by its early residents, because of its enviable placement in the beautiful Miami River Valley and its cultural sophistication relative to other Ohio communities. Dayton also became known as the Birthplace of Aviation when Wilbur and Orville Wright founded their aviation school at Huffman Prairie Flying Field, now a corner of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and enhanced the experimental machine that flew initially at Kitty Hawk and gave North Carolina its nickname “First in Flight,” into the viable transport vehicle that launched a new age and gave Ohio its nickname “First in Aviation.”
